Welcome to my site. After several people, and my son Marcus in particular, suggested I do this I’ve decided I should. It’s pretty much all about me (Peter Stansbury) and my running (and some jumping and throwing), but that’s not really the point. I’m now 58 years old, and at 53 I hadn’t done any athletics training since I was 18. Then my son took up track and field and persuaded me to join as a Veteran/Master, which actually seemed appealing given the alternative was to stand trackside on a winter evening with nothing but a cup of tea and some friendly parents to protect me from the cold and the wet.
Five years in I am fitter and stronger than I’ve ever been (aside from my youth perhaps) and so I’d just like to share what I’m up to in the hope that it can encourage others out there who might think like I did, that you are too old for this sort of thing. Okay, I’m a bit crazy about my training and you can get away with a lot less and still reap the rewards. On the other hand I am married, with children and working full time so you might manage a lot more….
Oh, and a secondary benefit, for me, is that I’ve been rubbish at keeping a training diary, if I do it here I might actually keep track!
My Team
Whilst it could be argued that track and field is one of the most individual sports, it fundamentally takes a team to make an individual successful.
I train and compete with Dacorum Athletics Club with the excellent Deb Keenleyside as my coach. I also compete with the Eastern Masters Athletics Club.
A lot of the hard work happens off the track. Click on the links below to see who I work with…..
My Power of 10 profile shows what I’ve been up to and if you take up athletics I’m sure you’ll learn to love it too

Week Notes – 4th August
Well, here we go. I know I’ve been rubbish at keeping this site up to date. So I want to try and instill the discipline
Another 400m another step forward
A year or so back a few of us made the trip round the M25 for a Blackheath and Bromley open. The weather was crazy
Getting a 400m under the belt
After a patchy start to 2023, having a hamstring problem 50m into my first race of the year. Training and S&C seem to be coming
Injured Again!!
A very frustrating start to the week. Looking back over time when I first returned to athletics in my 50s I had several early injuries.
World Champs – Poor Performance, Wonderful Tournament
Made my first foray into the world of international Masters Athletics competitions. Tampere in Finland were selected as hosts and I must say it’s an
